Rosalind Krauss’ L’Amour Fou: Surrealism and Photography

Photography is originally viewed as a realistic medium which makes it hard to establish photography as a medium for surrealist work. However, L’Amour Fou offers a critical study of the role of photography in the Surrealist movement. The book illustrates the way in which photographers use the service of subjective Surrealism to claim the medium’s objectivity claim. As my project involves certain elements of surrealism and unnatural elements it is important fro me to research around the topic of surrealism and understand the role of photography in such as movement. The book is quite complex but offered a critical viewpoint of photography and surrealism whilst using surrealists artist work such as Man Ray and Brassi which was accompanied by an essay to elaborate on a point.
